Solar Power

After teasing the drop of a new project with little more than a summery image, Lorde has released “Solar Power”, the first single from her forthcoming album. Co-written and produced with long-time collaborator Jack Antonoff (who also produced her sophomore album, 2017’s Melodrama), the track also features indie rock goddesses Phoebe Bridgers and Clairo on backing vocals. Over muted acoustic guitars, a wash of shimmering harmonies and a melody that recalls the euphoric strains of George Michael’s “Freedom! ’90”, “Solar Power” is an ode to this shift between seasons and the optimism and escapism it brings. “My cheeks in high colour, overripe peaches/No shirt, no shoes, only my features/My boy behind me, he’s taking pictures,” she sings, painting a picture of a beachside scene in the chorus. “Come one, come all, I'll tell you my secrets/I'm kinda like a prettier Jesus.”
