Lights

Singer-songwriter Nat Simons—the stage name for Natalia Garcia Poza—traveled far to record her second-full length album: from Spain to North Carolina. Using her dusky voice, she marries the rhythmic sensibilities of her home country with the blues-driven growl of the American South for an evocative cinematic journey. She quiets down to listen to herself on “Into the Woods”, and finds a glistening light on “Happiness”. “People” goes darker, as Simons pays witness to the madness dividing humankind, and Hiss Golden Messenger’s MC Taylor joins her on “Desire”, which sheds all pretense about love and romance. Combining the lyrical prowess of Neko Case with the aesthetic stylization of Chromatics, Simons has found a new frontier for the Americana landscape.
