Many say that the cello is the closest instrument to the human voice, which seems true in these passionate interpretations of beloved arias. Mozart’s soaring lyricism settles perfectly here, as do the heroic and tragic melodies of Puccini and Verdi. Maer evokes the full breadth of the human instrument with this satisfying effort.
