TOKiMONSTA crafts melodies that descend like a cool fog, and beats that dip back into the glory years of Ninja Tune before moving the art form forward. The L.A. producer’s seven-track Fovere blends ornate instrumentals (the aptly named “Starlight Lace”) with soulful fare (“I’m Waiting”, featuring Gavin Turek's ethereal coo) and dance-trap thumpers like "Put It Down", where Anderson .Paak's boasts ratchet the energy to a feverish apex. But the DJ plays most ably when weaving enigma, beckoning us into her blur of downtempo, hip-hop and enveloping ambience.
