god forbid a girl spits out her feelings!

As the title of her second album makes abundantly clear, Toronto alt-pop artist Lauren Mandel—aka LØLØ—is not shy when it comes to oversharing. The 13 tracks on god forbid a girl spits out her feelings! all thrust us into the middle of an intimate conversation or inner monologue that provides a window into dysfunctional relationships where desires aren’t being reciprocated (“hung up on u”) and even DMs of compromising photos can’t reignite the spark (“me with no shirt on”). But if LØLØ’s lyrics read like private exchanges, here songs are engineered for mass appeal, with a shimmering, acoustic-driven sound that connects the dots between ’90s Lilith Fair (“stuff like that”), post-Y2K pop punk (“the devil wears converse”) and Red-era Taylor Swift (“the punisher”).
